The Children’s Crusade

13 Sep
childrens crusade - Tom_Sander_Crusades

Once upon a time in America, if you were a politician, you could be assured of losing the voters confidence and/or your job just by refusing to acknowledge or by merely implying that America’s children weren’t the most important and precious resource that out country has.

And once upon a time in history over 800 years ago as the story goes, A young man began to preach in either France or Germany; claiming that he had been visited by Jesus, who instructed him to lead a crusade in order to peacefully convert Muslims to Christianity.

Through a series of portents and miracles, he gained a following of up to 30,000 children and led his followers south towards the Mediterranean Sea, in the belief that the sea would part on their arrival, which would allow him and his followers to walk to Jerusalem.

Unfortunately That did not happen and the children wound up being sold to two merchants who gave them free passage by boat to Tunisia where they were then sold into slavery… or in another version of the story, died in a shipwreck.

Although much of that story may be part myth, part legend  and part history many historians came to believe that they were not all children, but multiple bands of “wandering poor” in Germany and France who were part of a social upheaval: the downtrodden and disenfranchised in search of a “cause” so to speak…

The Children’s Crusade occurred in 1212 and at that time the words used to describe the travellers or crusaders were “parvuli” or “infantes” which were words that scholars have come to interpret as being words that The Church at that time used to describe “wage workers or labourers” who were young and had no inheritance and who were also “powerless”… and as a consequence, expendable.

However, today in modern times it is early September of 2020, or 808 years later, and once again we are about to embark on another children’s crusade as we send our youngest and most powerless children back to school during the midst of the Covid-19 Pandemic.

And they are being sent on a mission to save America from itself…asked to bravely go out into the world together in large groups to basically…send America back to work and to lead Americans back indoors and to return the economy to a sense of normalcy in an effort to…see what happens.

Are our children, as some say, immune to this terrible disease? Or will they catch it in large numbers like grown ups do and fall ill? Perhaps they will contract the virus but feel no effects and be no worse for the wear? Maybe they will bring it home to others in their family and spread the disease to loved ones who will too get sick but suffer a worse degree of illness than they, the carriers, do?

We just don’t know because while we suspended school and large social gatherings last March to avoid the spread of the Covid-19 virus, we have done nothing to hinder the virus from lying in wait for our, and our children’s return.

And thus, their “crusade”, if you will, begins. And why must we send them to schools and colleges en masse? Because who is to watch the children if they stay home? For our 2020 modern society is now based on work and capitalism where mothers and fathers alike go out into the working world to earn money to keep the economy growing… and one cannot grow the economy with children in tow.

And so, they go…to school…to learn…but mostly to be watched by teachers who are also child care-takers, an extra job also necessitated by the rise and popularity of capitalism. Alas, no one is home anymore, at least among the “wage workers” who are young and without capital.

But sadly teachers are wage workers also and many cannot go to work and watch the children of others when they have to leave their children at home.

And even though more than 97,000 children in the U.S. tested positive for the coronavirus in the last two weeks of July, findings, compiled by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children’s Hospital Association, included data from 49 states, meaning the number of infections could be even higher.

Health Officials have long warned that the true coronavirus toll may be much higher than reported due to insufficient testing and the lack of symptoms in many people who are infected. And with over 6 million confirmed cases in the U.S. with more than 500,000 of those cases being children there is no way of knowing what will happen next.

Yet still we plan to send our “les infantes” out on this crusade… except this time we are actually sending real children out into the fray! (along with teachers and support staff and other wage workers) Some actually want to go, some are choosing to stay at home and still others are being forced against their will and better judgement… But Will their sacrifice breathe life back into our economy or will our hopes and dreams be dashed on the rocks of poor judgement and greed?

I can’t believe I’m saying this but…we shall see? To paraphrase an ancient Greek philosopher’s maxim:  We are sending our hearts out into the world…unguarded.

Good luck and Godspeed to the crusaders… and us all!

It’s Official! We’re All Demented!?

President Trump, arguably the leader of the free world, bragged about having “aced” a cognitive test that he took at Walter Reed Medical Center, where the president said doctors were “very surprised” at his apparently fantastic results. “That’s an unbelievable thing,” The President said that the doctors told him about his test results. “Rarely does anybody do what you just did.”

President Trump took the Montreal Cognitive Assessment test during his annual physical…and according to the testing instructions, the MoCA is “designed as a rapid screening instrument for mild cognitive dysfunction. It assesses different cognitive domains: attention and concentration, executive functions, memory, language, conceptual thinking, calculations, and orientation.”

In other words, this is a test that would measure a decline in intelligence — not intelligence itself and yet our President  while doing very well on the test (a good thing) believes that it was a very difficult test of intelligence that most Americans could not pass. (a very strange thing) Because as mentioned above this is a test to measure one’s level of cognitive dysfunction not one’s intelligence quotient.

“It’s all misrepresentation, said the president to Fox TV interviewer, Chris Wallace, Because, yes, the first few questions are easy, but I’ll bet you couldn’t even answer the last five questions. I’ll bet you couldn’t, they get very hard, the last five questions.”

Mr Wallace’s reply was: “Well, it’s not the hardest test. They have a picture and it says “what’s that” and it’s an elephant!”

Here is the actual test for you to peruse. Could you pass this test? Beware the final 5 questions. They are very hard!

MoCA: Montreal Cognitive Assessment #Diagnosis #Geriatrics ...

Did you recognize those animal pictures? Sorry, (But Chris, where was the elephant?) That was the easy part of the test!

Can you Repeat those sentences? Name words that begin with the letter F? Find what’s similar between a bicycle and a train? Recall 5 words? Do you know the date, month, year, day, place and city that you are currently in?

Congratulations you are not demented! And neither is the President!

So why does he think that most of us Americans including Chris Wallace, probably and most likely are? (possibly the elephant in the room? or not?)

Now that’s a tough question!

Why Wealthy Folks don’t need tax Breaks!

2 Apr

Actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin were among dozens of people recently charged by the FBI in an elite college admission scheme…Surprise! Surprise! Rich people use their excess wealth to bribe and influence people to get what they want! Who would have thunk it?

The Hollywood stars joined CEOs of private and public companies, real estate professionals and a fashion designer in paying up to 6 million dollars in bribes to ensure that their children were accepted to schools such as Yale and Georgetown. Most of the parents paid $250,000 to $400,000 per student.

Imagine being able to spend all of that money sending your kids to schools that they are really not going to attend anyway! Couldn’t you think of a much better way to spend that kind of money on your children…or yourself…or your family? And do you remember how hard it was to put yourself or your children or to have your family pay to put you through school? You might even still be paying for it…and at 8% interest! (Thank you Congress!)

The scheme, which the FBI called a “nationwide conspiracy,” allowed parents to pay for their children to cheat on exams and apply to elite schools as student athletes, regardless of their actual skills. Top college coaches at the schools are also among those charged, but authorities said they are not investigating the schools themselves.

Of course not! Why investigate the schools? We wouldn’t want to put schools out of the “rich family schooling business” would we? Even if they qualify and sanction ne’re-do-well rich kids as bonafide scholars, it’s still great business…and an education for us all. Money Talks! It really, really does. It talks so much that even our U.S. Supreme Court, a fine collection of 9 “scholars” themselves, has declared money to be free speech…just like the kind of speech that we humans invented and which sets us apart from the lower animals.

But I digress because The bribery ring got its start several years ago when William Rick Singer founded a for-profit college admissions company in Newport Beach, California, that masqueraded as a not-for-profit group. This “sham charity” allowed him to conceal the nature of the payments made by parents, who could then take a tax write-off at the end of the year!

So the rich parents not only paid millions of dollars to get their children into colleges in which they didn’t belong and had no qualifications to attend but they were then able to write off the expense as a charitable one for a charity that didn’t exist! (unless of course you consider yourself to be a charity case) Holy Catholic sex offender restitution program, Batman!!! …This is what the wealthy do with their money!

And we thought they used it to help the poor! Instead they use it to trickle down on the likes of : Yale, Stanford, the University of Texas, USC, UCLA, the University of San Diego and Wake Forest University…to name a few of the struggling institutions that these wealthy parents sought to help…  and Some parents even paid for someone to pose as their child during entrance exams ― and even during classes ― with those scores submitted as part of the college application…and Other cases involved exam administrators allegedly providing students with answers during the tests or correcting wrong answers afterward.

And it gets even worse because some parents also falsely claimed that their children had learning disabilities, requiring extra time on the exams, and that those claims were bolstered by notes from therapists! Holy Tax Reform, Bat Girl! Is there no end to what rich people will do to get even richer?

According to one witness in the scam, the one rationale that most parents accepted as they prepared to cheat their children’s way into a “good school” was

“Everybody’s doing it” …and… “The whole world is scamming the system!” Oops! That’s 2 rationales!…but whoever paid attention in school anyway?

Which brings us full circle and back to our own current United States Secretary of Education, Betsy Devos, who believes that our public schools are “a dead end” and who has said that her education advocacy would “advance God’s kingdom.” And that “my generation hasn’t done a great job when it comes to dealing with one another in grace.”

What she wants to gracefully do is cut overall federal funding to public education for the third year in a row (7 billion dollars)…and she wants to cut the entire budget for the Special Olympics, which is about 18 million dollars. Ms. Devos and her family have a net worth of 5.4 billion dollars of which 18 million dollars would constitute less than 1% or .0033 to be exact. To put that in perspective, if you earned a minimum wage of $15 per hour (a wage that rich folks think is far too much for poor folks to earn by the way) then you could save the Special Olympics by donating $102.96 of your salary.

Would you spend that kind of money to save the Special Olympics? I bet you would. But an incredibly wealthy (and devoutly Christian) person like Betsy Devos wouldn’t because she has 10 yachts and 2 helicopters to feed. (besides her mortal soul)

And that is why we should never give tax breaks to wealthy people! That and because they will never show you their tax returns… nor their college grades neither!… And yet we still wonder why? (Hint: It’s not because they are being audited…by anyone)

Do Earthlings Know Science?

15 Feb

Well, at least American Earthlings…Do they know science? Duh, Is the globe warming? And of course your answer to that probably depends upon how you answer these questions on the National Science Foundation Exam. I first posted this blog in 2014 under the title Galileo Gali…fianakis? and even though the NSF re-issues this survey to Americans every 2 years, and it is now 4 years later…the results haven’t changed! So here it is again. If you’d like you can take the survey at the end and see how you do.

Galileo Gali…fianakis?

1.Does the Earth go around the Sun, or the Sun go around the Earth; and how long does this journey take?

2.Did Zack Galifianakis appear in the movie The Hangover; and did he appear in a sequel to that movie?

Odds are that if these questions were asked as part of a national survey, question #2 would receive more correct responses than question #1, because in a recent survey conducted by the National Science Foundation only 73% of those surveyed knew that the Earth revolves around the sun…and of those only 71% also knew that it takes 1 year for the Earth to complete said journey.

Wow! And why do we suppose that is?

Is it because only 74% of America’s science teachers in America’s public schools have ever mentioned or illustrated this amazing fact to America’s students?

Is it because only 74% of America’s parents have ever had “that talk” with their children about where the sun goes at night?

Is it because we are a Christian country and as such only 74 of us will ever believe in both god and science?

There must be an answer because the National Science Foundation has been conducting this survey with these exact same questions every two years over the past 20 years as part of a report that the National Science Board presents to the President and Congress and guess what?…According to their own report, “Generally speaking, the percentages have had little variation over the past twenty years.”

So 20 years ago one quarter of those surveyed did not know that the Earth revolves around the sun…and 20 years later one quarter of the U.S. population still doesn’t know this simple and basic fact…nor have any of the other questions received any significant increase in the number of correct responses.

What gives? 25% of Americans just can’t learn? Ever? Or is there something uniquely American when it comes to taking tests? I taught high school students for 33 years and every year I would meet children who could recite countless hip-hop songs from memory yet couldn’t remember 2 words on a vocabulary test. I had students who could surf their way through the internet on the newest computers with the greatest of ease but could not master the basics of Algebra I, even after 4 years in Freshman level Algebra! There were classes filled with young adults who could program and operate through their complicated cell phone menus and send and receive text messages using just their thumbs on a keypad smaller than Thumbelina’s purse and yet they could not write a coherent introductory paragraph for an essay question while using a pen and notebook, no matter how hard they tried…

And no matter how many standardized tests we gave them…and no matter how important we told them these tests were…and no matter how many times we revised the curriculum…and no matter how many times we developed new and improved learning strategies…and no matter how many times we replaced the Superintendent and Principal or revamped the teaching staff or asked the parents to please get involved or threatened the students with failure and the withholding of diplomas…or declared nationally that we would “Leave No Child Behind”…their test scores little improved.

I’m willing to bet that just about every American knows that the Earth goes around the sun. It’s just that a certain percentage of us just don’t see the importance of remembering that fact or in paying attention to someone who wants to ask us such a stupid question to see if we know it. Does the Earth or Sun care? They’re still going to be doing their thing whether I answer that question correctly or not, right? And don’t you have something better to do than ask me that?

We’re Americans after all…and we’re busy! We’re a nation of seriously professional consumers who have been trained literally from birth to buy and sell and entertain and be entertained and consume and waste and innovate and reinvent and get bored if all of that takes too long.

The question and answer test, especially in pencil. paper and booklet form, is just no longer relevant to the 21st century world and I believe that we 20th century minded educators are the ones who have to get out of the way and stop worrying about numbers on tests as the only way to discern and/or prove whether or not learning is taking place.

Here’s the National Science Foundation’s test. Take it and see how well you score. Then ask yourself how many times these answers were given to you over the course of your lifetime by your teachers and parents and how many times these topics were probably covered during your schooling or lifetime… And then ask yourself if how well you did or did not just score on this test has any bearing or relevance to your present life or living conditions, even if it once did. When you’re playing on your X-Box do you really need to still be tested on your Atari skills? If you score better than a 7 on the following test then…you’re not average…and maybe even not American?

Physical Science

  1. True or False: The center of the Earth is very hot.
  2. True or False: The continents on which we live have been moving their locations for millions of years and will continue to move in the future.
  3. Does the Earth go around the Sun, or the Sun go around the Earth; and how long does this journey take?
  4. True or False: All radioactivity is man-made.
  5. True or False: Electrons are smaller than atoms.
  6. True or False: Lasers work by focusing sound waves.
  7. True or False: The universe began with a huge explosion.

Biological Science

  1. True or False: It is the father’s gene that decides whether the baby is a boy or a girl.
  2. True or False: Antibiotics kill viruses as well as bacteria.

Today, President Trump’s campaign announced an “exclusive Columbus Day sale,” offering 25% off Trump-branded merchandise.

The Email sent to Trump campaign subscribers wrote: “As leftists push harder and harder to erase our nation’s past, there’s never been a better time to celebrate our history. America’s past is being vilified and stripped away by liberals in the media and our schools — but we won’t stand for it.” …

So there is nothing like enjoying a discount to make you feel better is there?!… Just use code 1492. (for all of you history buffs out there) I kid you not…this is too true to make up.

This of course is not the first time that a President has made a speech on Columbus Day to honor the old explorer, but it is the first time that a POTUS has done his best to profit from it by selling his own merchandise (at discount prices no less!) as though he were representing Macy’s or K-Mart rather than the United States of America…and while bashing at least half of all Americans in the process!

Nothing is worse for America than liberals the media and schools! So let’s all work to make America Great Again by shopping on-line for hats and other crap with our President’s name on it!

Because everyone knows that good old Chris Columbus was not looking for a new world (with Liberals, Leftists, Natives, Immigrants, Newsmen, Scholars, Protesters, Africans, Latinos and Jews in it!!!) He was looking for a way to get to the other side of the OLD world…

…So he could go shopping, of course! MAGA!

Image result for get your money's worth

When President Trump was recently asked about his and the Republican party’s continuing effort to replace and repeal the Affordable Care Act this is what he had to say:

“The plan gets better and better and better, and it’s gotten really good, and a lot of people are liking it a lot.”

If this were the answer to an essay about the state of healthcare reform in America today that I had given to one of my Freshman English students it would have received a failing grade…not only because it is incomplete and lacks substance, to say the least, but also because it shows an utter contempt for the assignment, the reader and the English language.

Take out the simple and repeated modifiers and you have PLAN GET… PLAN GOTTEN… PEOPLE LIKING.

Pretty bad for a 15 year old. Not bad for a Neanderthal. And absolutely mind boggling, sad, depressing, embarrassing, ridiculous, insulting, inane, thoughtless, contemptible, and uneducated drivel coming from the President of the United States.

President Trump graduated from college with a Bachelor of Science degree in economics! That means he completed at least 16 years of public and private school education in the United States of America. Quite obviously somebody helped him… but in any case…

He did not get his money’s worth…nor did any American.

Are You an Anti-Intellectual?

21 Apr

Image result for anti-intellectualism

President Trump thinks that Korea was once part of China…you know, like France and Russia were once part of Germany. But do today’s Americans really care where a bunch of gooks originally came from?

I know that sounds insensitive of me and like I just used a racial slur but that’s OK now isn’t it? Now that we here in America no longer have to worry about being politically incorrect… which is apparently just another way of saying stupid.

Stupid is in. It’s cool now. It’s so anti-intellectual… and it’s taken the burden off of having to know things all the time. Now we can feel truly free again and not worry about having to always be right, knowledgeable or even educated about the subjects we are talking about… or the things that we are saying.

Like when President Trumps says that he has a task force steaming its way to the Korean Peninsula but it’s actually going in the other direction. Or like when our Attorney General refers to Hawaii as just some island in the middle of the pacific. Or how about when our Secretary of State says “Pon-Yang” like that’s really a place in North Korea? Isn’t that just so rad?

And remember when Press Secretary Spicer called Hitler’s concentration camps Holocaust centers? That was funny wasn’t it? Thank God the days of having to be PC about that war are over, n’est pas?

There are alternative facts now! Finally we can all stand up to the highly educated and tell them to take their knowledge and book learning and truths and stick then where those “Bowling Green Massacre” victims are buried…am I right?

In fact,  a recent survey of college campus presidents by Inside Higher Ed tells us that there is a growing gap between American college campuses and the American public...because about 70% of respondents agreed that anti-intellectual sentiment is growing in the United States.

Pretty cool huh? Especially now that we have an anti-intellectual president to help us lead the charge. No more worrying about what we don’t know, or what we just said or what we just did that might get us in trouble. And spelling??? Like that’s a thing!…From now on It’s full tweet ahead!

Like any insensitive monarch who could care less about what people think of us, we can now hold our heads up high when asked about what we meant about this insult or that, that off handed remark or this, or that bombing or the other and say…Mmmmmmm what was the question??? I just had such a delicious piece of chocolate cake, I can’t think straight!

Isn’t life in Post-Knowledgeable America grand? Let’s all eat some cake!

I Cannot Tell a Lie

23 Feb

Image result for George Washington never tell a lie

This past Monday was President’s day. I remember a time when we celebrated both George Washington’s birthday and Abraham Lincoln’s birthday every February, and on, of all days, their actual birthdays! But now we just celebrate President’s day and celebrate all presidents because it’s much more convenient, expedient and cost effective…and it’s always on a Monday!… which must be because all presidents were born on Mondays? Silly me, it’s because all Mondays come immediately after all weekends.

But seriously, if you’ve ever been to school then you have heard the story of our first president, George Washington, and his childhood experience with a certain cherry tree. George Washington grew up on Ferry Farm and while it hasn’t been confirmed that his cherry tree story was true,  it has been confirmed that there were cherry trees on the farm when George Washington was just 6 years old…so who knows?

In any event the point of the story, as it was made clear to all of us who heard, it was that George Washington never told a lie… and neither should we. And why? Because honesty is always the best policy, that’s why. And the truth shall set you free! And it was all simply part of a grade school narrative enforcing good old American values that included truth, justice, honesty, morality, and the golden rule. And if these values were good enough for and respected by the first President of the United States…the Father of our Country…then they certainly were to be embodied in each of us.

But that was a long, long time ago…how many people today believe that honesty is the best policy or that the truth shall set one free? Our 45th president lies on a regular if not daily basis (as kids would say) like a rug…and he has a staff that is willing to repeat those lies, if for no other apparent reason, simply because it is their job. Imagine that? There are jobs now in which the sole job description is to lie “truthfully”…but to be fair (another word that has all but lost its meaning) there is so much lying being employed as a “strategy” in so many work places in today’s world that it is hard to tell where the truth actually… lies!

Is there anyone out there who can seriously dispute that right now our Congress is hard at work trying to find a way to “honestly” explain to the American people why we DON’T need healthcare, food-stamps, affordable housing, fair wages, women’s rights, human rights, clean air, clean water, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and Peace. And that what we “honestly” DO need is a wall, deportations, travel bans, cuts in social services, and more weapons for more war.

The one truth that I’d like to learn is…who is our government working for? I’m serious…really… Wouldn’t it be nice to know who it is they are actually working for? It can’t possibly be US, can it? That’s one truth we know…isn’t it? I’m even beginning to wonder if they are even working for people! Just about everything our legislators (especially Republicans) seem to want to do these days is anti-People and anti-Earth. Who’s left? What’s left? Am I right?

Perhaps if George Washington were with us today and he were here to read my words he would say that I was simply being cynical and overly dramatic and that things in America couldn’t possibly be that duplicitous…But still I wonder…

Because It seems to me that old George’s famous mantra of “I shall never tell a lie” has been whittled down over the years to a much simpler and streamlined, one size fits all incantation of, “I shall never tell!”

And now, whether or not we are being lied to or told the truth…we can’t know for sure…    if we know anything at all.

Comrade President?

8 Feb

Image result for Comrade President Trump

President Donald Trump so far in his brief tenure as POTUS has been picking fights with just about everyone. He has fought with Congressmen and Senators and judges and the entire press core and countries large and small, both allies and enemies. He has fought with the truth and with photographs and with his own tweets and contradictory statements and even with his past and former self…

But he will not fight with Russia nor its president, Vladimir Putin. In fact Mr. Putin appears to be beyond reproach in the eyes of our President.

During the campaign for the presidency he called Mr. Putin a close personal friend whom he had met on several occasions…even though they had never met in person nor talked on the phone…Not even once.

When it was discovered by our own intelligence agencies that Russia, under the direction of President Putin, had hacked U.S. institutions and used hacked information in an attempt to sway or alter the American Presidential election, Mr. Trump said that he didn’t believe it. He even defended the Russian President by suggesting that anyone could have done it…even a fat, lonely guy in New Jersey.

Then candidate Trump even joked that if it was President Putin who had been behind the hacking perhaps he would do “The Donald” a favor by continuing to hack US databases until Hillary Clinton’s lost Emails were discovered, as though cyber-terrorism perpetrated against the US was all in fun or just a game.

And now that he is President, Mr. Trump continues to defend the Russian leader by likening Mr. Putin’s known assassinations of political opponents as commonplace killing… like the kind that the United States is quite often guilty of. “There are a lot of killers. You think our country’s so innocent?” said President Trump.  “I think our country does plenty of killing.”

And when discussing Russia’s invasion and annexation of the Crimea and his later insurgencies int the Ukraine Mr. Trump was quite flattering of President Putin and not in the least bit angry. “He’s running his country and at least he’s a leader, unlike what we have in this country.”
Wow! When it comes to Vladimir Putin vs. The Untied States, Putin wins! at least in the opinion of our President. Only 27 years since the fall of “The Evil Empire” and Russia has apparently passed us right by in the morality and leadership departments…American Carnage indeed!
When you consider all of the people and things that rankle our new President you’d think that Vladimir Putin would at least be somewhere on his list of pet peeves. But no! President Trump has what can only be described as a BFF man crush on the Russian President.
What gives? How can we explain this? Does our good president have some kind of political or financial ties to President Putin? Does he owe Vlad a favor or is he in his debt in someway? Is it really just platonic admiration and love? Just A good old fashioned bro-mance?
How can we know? President Trump won’t release his financial records or tax returns. And President Trump is a man who loves to talk about himself and his accomplishments. So why won’t he brag to the American people about how he has made all of his billions? And why don’t other Republicans seem to care?
They brought Hillary Clinton before Congress 9 times in an effort to link her to treasonous activities while she was the US Secretary of State. They consider all of Hillary’s missing or unfound Emails as proof of her treasonous activities even though there is no proof to show to America.
But President Trump’s missing and hidden financial records are not anything to worry about nor worthy of investigation even though the President is an avowed admirer of one of the most nefarious leaders of the post communist world? Even While Ms. Clinton was an avid opponent of President Putin and visa versa?
No one is even in the least bit curious? Aren’t you? I sure am? We wasted millions of dollars and countless Congressional hours chasing Hillary around in efforts to defend America’s integrity when there was scant evidence to suggest that it was anything but a wild political goose chase… but in this most inexplicable and curious case of unadulterated man-love for a foreign tyrant by a sitting American President we can’t even have a simple…Say what? investigation? Like: Show us your taxes the way every other President in the last 4 decades has?
Nope! The President who would make America great again doesn’t even like America! And he says so! He hates our cities. He says our public schools stink. He belittles our intelligence agencies. He calls our media and newspapers dishonest scum. He says that America is nothing but decay and carnage and a country of killers…and his supporters love it! They can’t seem to get enough of his hateful rhetoric! And they are waiting. They are waiting for him to save them from what? A nation gone to ruin?
Is that how you see America? A nation of flotsam and jetsam that needs to look to mighty Russia and Vladimir Putin for ideas and leadership? It’s quite obvious that That is how our President would like us to see it?
Wouldn’t it be nice to know Why?

Twitter D and Twitter Dumb

14 Feb

New Yorkers are up in arms because Mayor Bill de Blasio did not close the schools on Thursday when another major snow storm hit New York City. Even weatherman Al Roker was up in arms and complaining on Twitter to nearly 270,000 followers about his daughter’s snowy commute to school.

Why 270,000 people who live anywhere need to know that is beyond me but when you consider the fact that NYC public schools have been closed only 11 times in the last 40 years…what’s the big deal?

I can understand why teachers and administrators and support staff and above all bus drivers might be upset with the schools being open but at least they are being paid and shouldn’t really complain at all…Plus, as a former teacher, what is better than a school NOT filled with students?!

But I digress, because my main point is that just because schools are open doesn’t mean that you have to send your children there!

Ask any home schooling parent that…or better yet ask most of my former students!

Especially if there is a blizzard outside!

Parents of the world: If you send your children to school in horrendous and hazardous conditions, regardless of whether or not the mayor or school chancellor of your district tells you that it is a beautiful day outside, you should know better. Just keep your kids at home where it’s safe and warm and if it’s not safe and warm there at least you still have a school to send them to (where hopefully it is safe and warm) but it’s still your decision after all…don’t get all in a “Twitter”.
