White House Surrenders! Victory Declared!

29 Oct
We Surrender - Home | Facebook

It’s Over! Hurrah! The Covid-19 Virus has been defeated even though our government has just announced that “We will not try to control the pandemic!”

From now on we will just treat it like the common ordinary flu with vaccines and medicines and getting better. So there!

Even though the Coronavirus has felled almost 230,000 citizens in 8 months and is 10 times more deadly than the common, ordinary flu virus it can’t win if we just ignore it…

You know, like we do with the common, everyday, ordinary flu! So what if it kills 36,000 Americans each year? Who cares? Do you know any of those 36,000?…probably not. And so what if this new virus kills 360,000 per year? Do you know any of those people either?

“Just get over it!” Says our President! “Don’t let it dominate you!” “It’s all just a big media hoax.”

If we stop testing it, it can’t pass the test now can it? And we won’t have so many cases then will we? And if you do get it and die from it because you were too fat or too asthmatic or too old or too poor or whatever… then that was the real killer wasn’t it? And it really was all your fault wasn’t it?

So stop complaining and take better care of yourself!

Let’s all just ignore it and stop being so frightened and simply declare victory! How can the virus win if we win first?! We can’t both win can we? So there! Take that Coronavirus!

And today The White House science office (when did the White House get a science office?) listed “ending the COVID-19 pandemic” as the top accomplishment of  President Trump’s first term. His TOP accomplishment!…Which he just accomplished! Wow!

And today was also the day when the U.S. set a record for new daily infections! Talk about snatching victory from the jaws of defeat! Way to go White House Science Department!

Who knew that surrender could lead to such sweet, wonderful victory!?

I mean who knew that victory could lead to such sweet wonderful surrender?

I don’t know what I mean but someone does…

Our very own stable genius, That’s who!

And according to Presidential Advisor, Jared Kushner, President Trump has been “getting the country back from the doctors” in what he called a “negotiated settlement.”

It was such a simple minded idea that it was simply, absolutely brilliant!

We negotiated a settlement with the doctors who agreed to stand down from their all out assault on the American public’s freedom, while our President (AKA The “great negotiator” BTW) stepped in and made peace with the deadly virus by declaring it an enemy that he no longer recognizes.

So it’s all over now folks…Huzzah! (except for The Dying)

Nothing to do from now on but the shopping and the playing and the school going and the work doing and the stock marketing and well, you know…(The Dying)

so just do me a favor will ya?

Don’t die!

And if by chance you do…keep it to yourself… okay?

Why spoil such a good plan?

You’re Welcome!

Truth In Advertising?

Image result for stress free ambulance nj

I know that one of the major side affects of living in a capitalist society is that the individual citizen is constantly bombarded by advertising…and if there is one thing that Americans have become very good at it’s advertising…both sending and receiving.

Here, I’ll prove it: “Like a good neighbor….. (Did you sing the ending too?) And how about: “It takes a tough man to make a… (And did you remember his name also?… But I digress because as I was on my way home from a medical center in new Jersey today,  I saw this vehicle advertising “Stress Free” ambulance services!

A stress free ambulance? Is that even possible? Who could possibly be stress free in an ambulance? The patient? The loved one who gets to ride along? The paramedics and driver? I certainly would hope that they are all experiencing some stress while attempting to: save my life…or keep me alive…or get me to the hospital on time!?

And what about picking me up? How fast would a stress free ambulance go while on their way to my emergency? I don’t want anyone(else) to get into any accidents but a little stressful driving just might be what saves my life!

Unless of course, I’m being transported after I’m already dead!? Then I’d be in a hearse wouldn’t I? A stress free hearse I could understand…maybe. But a stress free ambulance? Do I really want to get into one of those?

How about you?

Shameless

24 Mar

I’m always receiving lots of junk Email in my inbox. Probably you do too. Most of it goes straight to my spam folder but every once in a while some slip through to my inbox and that’s mostly because every once in a while I can’t help but open one up just to see what it says. I’m sure that sets off an alarm in my browser that tells the internet police, “Hey! This guy will read anything! Send him more!”

Today I couldn’t help but be intrigued by this one titled: Background Checks: Find Out Your Parents’ Past Crimes!

If you’re curious about your parents’ past crimes, it just might be time to pack up and leave the house…unless of course you feel  they’ve been cheating you on your allowance and owe you more money for the lookout work you’ve been helping them out with… or maybe you feel they’ve been moonlighting with another gang late at night after you’ve been sent to your room to do your homework.

Here was another Email with the heading: Shameless Liars and Thieves!

It was from a Republican newsletter and after I opened it, it immediately identified the shameless liars and thieves as…the government. (As if I didn’t already know) but what had they done this time? Apparently our government has been withholding the secret to a cure for cancer for over 85 years! (I guess that means Republicans have been in on in too!)

Anyway, the short memo, as it’s called, goes on and on and on and explains that the good Dr. Al Sears knows the cure for cancer, aging, obesity, arthritis, depression, Alzheimer’s, and even graying hair! In fact he knows the cure for everything! All you have to do is purchase his newsletter and buy and read his 5 volume set about how to cure everything. And somehow the government can no longer stop him! Hooray for the internet! Hooray!

Of course, as any English teacher can tell you, always read to the end before answering any questions or filling out any forms because if you scroll down to the very end of this rag sheet you’ll find this disclaimer:

* These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.
This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Well, I suppose you’ve got to give them some credit. After all, they did put the words Shameless Liars and Thieves right there in the title to their Email. You just had to read to the end to find out that they were talking about themselves…

Now, If only someone could find a cure for people who behave like that!…or is it being kept a secret?

Should Feeling OK Keep the Doctor Away?

9 Mar

I’ve always suspected this but thought that perhaps I was just too cynical for it to actually be true but…

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (2010 statistics) here are the leading causes of death in America:

      Number of deaths

  • Heart disease: 597,689
  • Cancer: 574,743
  • Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 138,080
  • Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 129,476
  • Accidents (unintentional injuries): 120,859
  • Alzheimer’s disease: 83,494
  • Diabetes: 69,071
  • Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and nephrosis: 50,476
  • Influenza and Pneumonia: 50,097
  • Intentional self-harm (suicide): 38,364

So heart disease and Cancer are the 2 big causes of death in the USA But, consider this… a recent study in the Journal of Patient Safety, which is a follow up to a 2010 report from the Office of the Inspector General for Health and Human services, estimates that as many as 210,000 to 440,000 patients who go to the hospital for healing die each year as a result of preventable medical deaths.

This makes unintentional medical errors during… doctor’s, hospital’s, and nursing home’s attempts to care for and improve our health… the third-leading cause of death in the United States!

And that is just counting the deaths from preventable errors…and that’s if you count preventable errors as a disease…which of course we don’t…and I also just have to ask. What’s the word “preventable” doing in front of the word “errors”? Isn’t the word error enough? Adding the word preventable implies that the errors wouldn’t occur if we just stopped insisting on the service, test or exam that leads to the errors being made.

And then…If we also count everyone who is in someway made sicker by an error in the healthcare they receive ( An error is defined as an act that produces an adverse outcome compared to the natural progression of disease) then up to one million more patients experienced some type of preventable error, that leads to injury. (according to the U.S. Institute of Medicine)

It seems that the more expensive healthcare has become, the more doctors, hospitals and insurance companies have become eager and interested in offering services, tests and screening exams to healthy patients in efforts to get a jump on their “potential disease” before it manifests itself as an “actual disease” to the patient…unfortunately many of these preventive measures have proven to be ineffective at best and dangerous at their worst. Most insurance companies and especially Medicare, reimburse doctors and hospitals regardless of outcome. In fact, there are now even billing codes for specific errors.

So what’s a body to do… healthy or Un?

Sadly, and as in most things once they become unimaginably profitable, it becomes necessary to “Let the buyer beware!”

That phrase “caveat emptor” arises from the fact that buyers often have less information about the goods or service they are purchasing, while the seller has more information. Defects in the good or service may be hidden from the buyer, and only known to the seller. Thus, the buyer should beware.

In legal theory this is known as information asymmetry...sounds like a disease doesn’t it?

Are You a Ticking Time Bomb?

4 Mar
Here’s something new and interesting…perhaps…

There’s A new screening technology that can predict if you’re at high risk of dying… in five years — even if you appear perfectly healthy….and I used to think that appearing perfectly healthy counted for something but…

According to Finland’s Institute for Molecular Medicine researchers have discovered that certain biological markers are strong indicators of dying from any disease in the near future. Scientists screened blood samples from over 17 000 healthy people for more than 100 different bio-molecules. Then after following the volunteers for several years while looking for measures in the blood that could reflect who had died within the following five years, they were able to identify four biomarkers of death!

The researchers say that the bio-markers helped to detect individuals who were at a much higher risk of dying during the five-year follow-up and the results did not change even when only apparently healthy persons were examined. Now it is hoped that in the future these measures could be used to identify people who appear healthy, but in fact have serious underlying illnesses and guide them to proper treatment.

So the question is: If you felt perfectly fine and healthy would you want to take a test to find out if you had only 5 years to live? Talk about test anxiety! Would you want to know? Would you believe it if they told you or would the simple fact of knowing that your time might be running out (only 5 years!) make your time run out faster? And how would you know if the test was really accurate… or if perhaps your doctor (in an effort to drum up business)… ( would doctors do that?) was making it all up just so he could have another patient and sell you some medicine. I mean after all, you feel great!?

It reminds me of the joke where the man answers his phone and his doctor is calling. “I have bad news and terrible news”, says the doctor. “What?” says the man. “Well, Give me the bad news first I guess”. “Your recent tests revealed that you have 24 hours to live!” says the doctor. “24 hours to live???” replies the man…then what’s the terrible news?” To which the doctor replies, “I’ve been trying to reach you all day!”

Technology is improving in leaps and bounds so hold onto your seats ladies and gentlemen. From hear on in…It’s going to be a bumpy ride!

Shocking Yet Still Awesome?

4 Oct

“Every man, woman and child in our country should be able to access the health care they need regardless of their income.”

Is this not a statement that you would agree with? Are we not the most powerful nation on the planet? We can and do wreak destruction wherever, whenever and on whomever we desire. If we can provide death and destruction to others, Why can’t we offer basic health to our own citizens?…not that I’m an advocate of death and destruction to others…but still, why not a national health care system that provides quality health care for all in the most cost-effective way possible for all of the citizens in this most shocking and awesome country?

Yet, there are still about 50 million people in our advanced and wealthy nation who lack health insurance and millions more who can hardly afford the healthcare plan they have now. In fact, about 45,000 Americans die every year because they can not get to a doctor when a doctor is just what they need… which ironically enough is just about the same amount who also die in automobile accidents and get killed by guns each year… but more importantly, when it comes to life expectancy, infant mortality and other important health outcomes, the United States is behind almost every other advanced country in the world.

However, and this is the truly amazing part and the absolute crux and heart of the matter, the U.S. spends almost twice as much per person on health care as any other nation! That is amazing! We spend approximately $2.7 trillion annually — on health care…and yet 50 million of our citizens don’t get any! So who gets the money? And why so much of it? And why wouldn’t they want 50 million more customers?!

At least The  Affordable Care Act is an improvement. It prevents insurance companies from denying patients coverage for pre-existing conditions, helps lower-income Americans afford health insurance and keeps our children on our existing policies when they can’t find jobs…and it will help those who don’t have insurance now, find some.

And what do the House Republicans who hate the Affordable Care Act offer as an alternative?

Absolutely nothing!

Status Quo!

Just the same old 2nd world healthcare for a first world nation!

And now they are holding the US Government hostage by shutting it down and putting more Americans out of work while denying new healthcare benefits for those who may have none.

And I wonder…

Are we bombing anyone tonight?
