Is Justice in America, Blind, Deaf or Dumb?

23 Feb

In 2012, A 47 year old Florida resident who carried a concealed weapons permit, along with a concealed weapon, sat in his car at a Jacksonville convenience store when 4 teenagers pulled in next to him with their rap music blaring from their car stereo. The man complained about the loud music to the teenagers and asked them to turn it down. One of the teenagers argued with the man and angry words were exchanged. The Floridian said that he felt threatened because he thought that he saw a weapon pointed at him from inside the other car so he pulled out his gun and fired 10 shots into the SUV, killing one of the teenagers.

2 years later the man was brought to trial on 1st degree murder charges and after listening to the evidence and witnesses a jury of Floridians deliberated for 30 hours over 4 days and decided that the shooter was guilty…of ATTEMPTED murder! Even though he had shot and killed a 17 year old boy, attempted murder was all they could agree upon.

And even though there was no weapon found in the SUV and even though the jurors still had the option of finding the defendant guilty of second degree murder or manslaughter, with Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law in effect, the jurors decided that they couldn’t decide if the shooter was acting in self defense or not…after all he did testify that he “felt threatened.”

Wow! So, I guess it was a good thing that there were other potential victims in the SUV that he was able to attempt to murder because otherwise he would have gone home a free man…apparently in Florida the teenager that was killed doesn’t count as actually being hit with the bullet just because he happened to be shot to death.

And this is what we get with more guns owned by more people who are given more rights to carry them around with additional rights to defend themselves whenever they see fit to do so. Which is exactly what our Founding Father’s hoped for the future of flintlock wielding American militiamen, and their targets, when they composed the Second Amendment…isn’t it?

Still I know there are gun advocates everywhere who believe that more citizens carrying concealed weapons make for a safer world. But what we are seeing rather, is a world of aggravated, angry and now armed citizens who still do not feel really safe unless they shoot first and ask questions later. Why wait for the intruder to break into your house when you can go outside and stalk him first?

So citizens beware! From now on when you travel from state to state check the laws of that land because these United States are fast becoming 50 autonomous territories free to set their own interpretations of the 2nd Amendment into the pages of their own separate but equal law books. And if while traveling, you happen across an angry citizen of that free state, who tells you to turn down your music or put away your annoying cell phone or take off your hat or pull down your hooded sweatshirt or to just stop looking so suspicious, you’d better say, “yes sir!” or “No Ma’am!” or “Excuse me. I didn’t know that I was bothering you. May I please be excused?” And for god sakes smile, and raise your hands…but not too fast…palms open…and avert your eyes perhaps…anything you can think of to look non-threatening and friendly and subservient will do… I guess…

Otherwise you might wind up dead! Shot by a fellow U.S. citizen with their legally concealed weapon.

Unless of course a convoluted law and a confused jury say that you weren’t.

Horrible Humans

9 Feb

So Ann Coulter and Tucker Carlson are on TV talking about how much better healthcare would be in America if only we let free enterprise do its job and allow health insurance companies to compete for customers instead of the dreaded new healthcare law that we have now…and they were laughing and chuckling and smiling and having a grand old time agreeing with each other about how much better and cheaper things are when you “outsource” to private enterprise and get government out of the way.

Anyway, their conversation suddenly took a serious tone when Ms. Coulter told a little anecdote about how her “friend” in California called her up one evening and told her that the friend’s sister had lost her insurance because of “Obamacare” and then when the sister became sick they couldn’t even go to the emergency room because they had no insurance. So days went by and Ms. Coulter had to go give a speech and when she got home afterwards she received a text from the friend informing her that the sister had gone into septic shock… and died! And the friend added in the text that her sister was “killed by “Obamacare!”

“Can I tweet that?” Ms. Coulter asked her friend. And her friend replied, “Of course you can. My sister would have wanted that.”

“Oh my God!” said a suddenly saddened Tucker. “That is really upsetting!”

“Shocking but not unexpected”, said Ms. Coulter with a chuckle (she’d apparently gotten over her grief) and then went on to conclude that “Obamacare” kills people just like she and all Republicans always knew it would and that the obvious answer is free market capitalism which as we all know saves countless lives all over the world and never is responsible for the death or mistreatment of anyone.

However, Never once did Ms. Coulter mention the fact that Blue Shield (the friend’s sister’s insurance company) did not pull out of California, like she said it had, and the company did not leave people without insurance, like she said it did… And in fact, in California, customers are allowed to keep their existing insurance plans through March…and of course that obvious scholar of all things American, Tucker Carlson, never once corrected her.

Nor did Ms. Coulter happen to mention to her friend that anyone can go to the ER in a hospital for emergency treatment, with or without insurance, and must be treated for life threatening illnesses. (any illegal alien knows that!)  In fact that has been one of the cornerstones of Republican angst whenever they discuss the sorry state of healthcare in the U.S.A. and how expensive it is to supply free ER care to the millions or immigrants, illegals and uninsured in the country today.

And Ms.Coulter apparently forgot that she is a mufti millionaire and could have saved her friend’s sister by simply telling her friend to “take your sister to the doctor and send me the bill. I’m really rich! Spare no expensive because after all, we’re good friends!” …but she didn’t…and Mr. C. didn’t point that out to her either.

All Ann did was go give a speech and then text her friend, after her friend’s sister died, “Can I tweet that?”

Then Tucker and Ann went back to alternately smiling and looking concerned and feigning outrage while continuing to discuss how President Obama and his horrible “Obamacare” (actually it’s called the Affordable Care Act) was specifically designed by the President of the United States and forced down the American people’s throats just so he could purposely kill people.

And the thought of that was amusing to them too! Silly Americans, you elected a murderer! Hee, Hee, Hee…

And for some strange reason Ms. Coulter also failed to mention how, if only her friend’s sister had been a Liberal Democrat, this all would have been a very happy story with a very happy ending and also the title of her next book, “How Obama murders liberals and I don’t care!”

How do these horrible human beings live with themselves? They make a living laughing, joking, cavorting…lying and worst of all, pretending to care about relieving the abject despair that so many real Americans live with every day of their lives… when they really couldn’t give a rat’s ass about anyone other than their own sorry, selfish, insincere, money grubbing selves.

How do they do it?

Will somebody please tweet me that.

And Justice For…

16 May

The United States with only about 5% of the world’s population has over 24% of the world’s prisoners. One of the basic principles that our nation was founded on and what many of our founding fathers thought was the most fundamental principal necessary for a free and democratic society to function properly was the rule of law…but only if it were applied equally to everyone, with no one, not even kings or royals or presidents or wealthy citizens, exempt from the nations laws.

Today the U.S. has almost 2.5 million prisoners in its jails and over 7 million citizens who are in some way either incarcerated or on parole or under probation for having broken the law…but what is it that most often sends people to prison in the U.S.? Here is an approximate breakdown.

Drug offenses…approximately 1.2 million

Public-order crimes…approximately 850 thousand

Violent crimes…approximately 200 thousand

Property crimes…approximately 150 thousand

Illegal government Wiretapping…approximately none

Creation of global torture network…approximately none

Fraudulent home foreclosures…approximately none

Inadvertent drone strikes…approximately none

Wall Street banking scandals…approximately… Bernard Madoff

In the United States approximately 1.5 million of our 2.5 million prisoners are either Hispanic or African American, comprising 60% of the prison population even though those 2 groups represent only 25% of the U.S. population.

If you would like to avoid the rule of law and stay out of jail in the United States today then you should do your best to be white, then wealthy and then a politician…on the other hand if you are poor, an immigrant or a person of color then the rule of law not only pertains to you but, in a prison system that is now mostly run for profit, is counting on you to be available for incarceration.

And even more sadly…those are the facts ma’am…just the facts.
