Aryan Grande?

Image result for NATO

I was watching Charlie Rose the other night and he was interviewing several foreign policy experts who were discussing the future of Europe and the free world, when one of the pundits brought up the possibility that with England leaving the European Union and President Trump and the United States discussing a pull back from NATO and the lessening of foreign aid to Europe, then who would become the leader of the free world…at least as we have known it since World War Two.

After all he said, it was England’s and The United States’ idea to rebuild a strong and peaceful Europe after WWII to offset the rise of a more powerful Russia and the East to guarantee the peace in a European realm that hadn’t experienced a peaceful partnership in hundreds of years preceding this new “Pax Americana”, post 1945 to the present.

The general consensus of the group was that if England and America are now both disinterested in the future of a European Union that they helped create, and with France also on the verge of an election that could lead to their withdrawal from the E.U., then the new leader of Europe and the west would be… Germany!

Wow! Imagine that?! 70 years after the end of the most devastating and world wide conflict in the history of mankind, Germany,  the once great Aryan architect and instigator of that conflagration, might find itself as the 21st century’s leader of the Free World?!

And seemingly all of this is happening because Both England and the USA, along with many European nations, are suddenly afraid of Muslim immigrants (and others) polluting their most sacred national identities? (Ever hear that before?)

And the winning of WWII by our “Greatest Generation” was important because?…Anyone???

War is Peace?

29 Mar
Is War Peace? Freedom Slavery? Ignorance Strength? As suggested by the leaders of Oceania in George Orwell’s novel, 1984? Well, Here in 2015, the United States, the country with the largest military budget in the history of the world, more than the next 10 militaristic country’s military budgets put together…has finally done it!
Currently we are fighting in Iraq, along side the Iranians, in an effort to defeat the terrorist forces of ISIS. And we are fighting in Yemen, alongside the Saudi Arabians, in an effort to defeat the terrorist forces of the Houthi rebels, who are allied with Iran!
Whose side are we on anyway? …Answer: Yes!
We are now fighting with our enemies against our enemies and they are both us, or at least one is us, or some combination of us and them. It’s quite confusing, but suffice it to say that we are fighting over there so we don’t have to fight here… which is kinda the same thing as saying…well, you know…don’t ya think?
And meanwhile here at home we are fighting over whether we should be increasing the military budget while cutting homes for the homeless, food for the hungry, and healthcare for the unhealthy…which is kinda the same thing as saying…
N’est-ce pas?…or as we like to say here in the USA… Freedom Fries!

Set Thy People Free!

6 Feb

Can someone please explain the Republican party to me? Do Republicans listen to themselves when they speak? And is anyone else actually listening to what they are saying? Especially Republican voters?

I get it…Republicans want freedom.

Freedom from Healthcare

Freedom from vaccinations

Freedom from having to make cakes for homosexuals

Freedom to carry and use your gun whenever and wherever you want

Freedom for corporations to have religious and personal rights

Freedom to go hungry when you have no food

Freedom to be homeless when you have no place to live

Freedom from all government regulations of any kind

Freedom to buy politicians and political influence at any cost

Freedom to condemn all beliefs not Christian

Freedom to pollute the Earth, water and air

They apparently want all present day Americans to have so many freedoms restored that it will feel like the 19th century all over again when the Robber Barons ruled the world and most Americans lived in abject poverty and without: health services, vaccinations, clean water, clean air, worker’s rights, decent wages, safe workplaces, personal rights to vote, worship and enjoy one’s sexual orientation, nationality and skin color without fear.

Is there but only one freedom necessary in the Republican world?

The freedom to carry one’s own cross and be nailed to it while your fellow citizens watch with indifference?

“The Price of Freedom is Eternal Vigilance”

Thomas Jefferson said that. Was he correct?

Right before the new year, in Idaho, a 2-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his mother after he reached into her purse while visiting the local  Wal-Mart and her concealed gun fired.

Mrs. Veronica Rutledge who had a concealed weapons permit in what is also an open carry state was shopping with her son and three other children, when the young boy who was left in a shopping cart, reached into his mother’s purse and grabbed a small-caliber handgun, which discharged one time.

Deputies who responded to the tragic scene commented: “It appears to be a pretty tragic accident,” In neighboring Washington state, a 3-year-old boy was seriously injured in November when he accidentally shot himself in the face in a home in Lake Stevens. In April, a 2-year-old boy apparently shot and killed his 11-year-old sister while they and their siblings played with a gun inside a Philadelphia home.

Over 30,000 citizens are killed by guns every year and There do not appear to be reliable national statistics about the number of accidental fatalities involving children handling guns, nor of those shot and killed by police officers, nor of suicides and other misadventures, and 2 years after the tragedy at Sandy Hook, Congress has still passed no significant legislation to help better regulate guns in our country…nor does it really even appear to be a pressing problem amongst legislators, media members, or moms and dads throughout America.

We live in a Democratic Republic where our well respected constitution defines our rights, one being the right to bear arms…and we as a country collectively bear about 300 million of them. We do it so proudly that in over 30 states we are allowed to show our right off, by openly carrying them. But now we also seek laws to allow us to conceal those guns so as to not appear too showy, I guess…or to perhaps “get the drop” on the bad guys that we know are out their, lurking, in the shadows…or in plain sight…and with their guns.

But is that really what we are so afraid of… here… in the Land of the Brave? Other people and their guns? Who is it who is out there who is so dangerous in the Wal-Marts of Idaho and Kansas and North Carolina that make us feel the need to carry guns in our pockets and purses? Do we have something other to fear but the fear of ourselves? Or don’t we?

“Tragedies happen”, we like to say…even when we say it about guns over 30,000 times each and every year. But that’s certainly not an apparent reason to limit our god given rights… and clearly to many members of our society it is the victims of gun violence’s own fault for wandering about in “gun free” zones…without guns…or for being so careless. People should know better…and yet still others say that we don’t have a gun problem at all in our country. What we have is a mental health problem!

I would certainly question the mental health of a populous of 300+ million people who own 300+ million guns…but that’s just me.

But alas, we are free after all, in a free country, and so as Mr. Jefferson once said so famously, we must remain vigilant lest we lose our freedoms!

And I believe, quite tragically, and in the end, it is going to be only ourselves who we must so vigilantly watch out for.

The Price of Freedom?

28 Apr

Perhaps I was a bit too wordy in my last post so I’ll try again….

A 4 year old went into his house and picked up a rifle then went outside and shot a 6 year old friend to death.

Should there be a penalty for the gun owner (not for the gun… but the owner)

And what kind of penalty?…

Or was this incident simply a price that some Americans pay for our freedom and the 2nd amendment of the US Constitution?
