Reading Is Fundamental?

20 Nov

83% of all court cases in South Dakota have to do with Meth (methamphetamine) use. So one would have to say that meth use is pretty big in South Dakota. And as a result The Governor of South Dakota has hired a public relations firm to help bring awareness to this problem and to help reassure the citizens of South Dakota that their government is doing something about it.

So naturally the government of South Dakota awarded a 1.4 million dollar contract to a PR firm to do just that…

And here is the slogan that they have come up with:

METH. WE’RE ON IT.

Here’s the poster:

Here’s the video:

South Dakota and Meth. They are on it! But I think it might only be because the slogan “Be Best” was already taken!?

Doesn’t anyone proof read anymore? Or listen? Or ask for advice? Or try things out before they jump in? Or run it by their colleagues and friends to see how it flies? Ask, “Hey! How does this sound?” Or find a teacher and say, “You’re a teacher. What do you think?”

Especially if they have an important job like, say, elected government official???

And of course those responsible for this PSA, video and slogan, rather than say they are sorry, admit that they’re effort was not well planned, poorly worded, and quite frankly just plain dumb, (not to mention a waste of 1.4 million dollars) have decided that it’s just fine and exactly what they had hoped for in their concerted efforts to champion “meth prevention”??? by:

Oh I give up! Maybe you can tell me?

Get on that please… and get back to me, OK?

Thanks.

I love it… in a thigh-slapping, laughing until tears spill and your sides ache kind of way. For far less, I’d easily come up with a more effective campaign slogan, though it couldn’t compare in the humor category. What can I say? Your tax dollars at work.

The video is even better than the slogan. But , as to answers to your questions : self-evident !

I thought it was a very clever slogan. And, it is so controversial that it has been repeated often and globally!
