Angry Redd-er Planet?

23 Feb

A lot of folks still believe that global warming is just a hoax…unless of course you live just about anywhere on the planet! If you are alive then you should be experiencing a certain and persistent warm feeling about your neighborhood, state, country, hemisphere or whatever…But if you still are a climate change denier…Sometimes all we need to look at is the “Big Picture”.

Above is the data from my 2014 blog post and below is the latest data from the National Climate Data Center. Personally, I can’t wait for Spring and the warmer temperatures but maybe I should be careful about what I wish for…We’re starting to look more like the Angry Red Planet and less like that Pretty Blue Dot in the heavens.

But then again, it’s only science? Maybe we should talk about feelings…

So…What’s the weather felt like where you are?

I live in North Cyprus – we’ve had an incredibly mild, dry winter heading into drought. It’s already up to 22-25C here, and last summer was so stinking hot – around 40C every day for 2 months – that even the locals were complaining. And humid. Don’t forget the humidity. I used to live in Perth, Western Australia, which a few days ago was the hottest city on Earth that day. It is heading into more frequent very hot spells – 40+ – 45C, and after being away from the city for ten or so years, we could see that the climate had changed. And having watched the wettest summer in years taking place in the UK, yes, climate change is in action!

Sold the Skates, can’t use them anyway, no Ice, no snow, and none in the forecast.

Record breaking warm days earlier in February (75F) here in central California. Enjoying it while we can. In for another record warm year I expect. At the same time, too often, however, I’ve seen temperature anomalies, like severe east coast blizzards, used by climate change deniers. I tend to think in terms of this definition I heard somewhere: weather is what the weather is doing day by day. Climate is the longer term trends…
