With Donald Trump atop the polls in the Republican presidential race so far, it makes one wonder (at least me) if America is about ready to “jump the shark” which is entertainment parlance used to describe “the moment in the evolution of a television show when it begins a decline in quality, signaled by a particular scene, episode, or aspect of a show in which the writers use some type of gimmick in an attempt to keep viewers’ interest.”
With all of the craziness going on in the United States these days with the endless wars on terror, poverty and drugs and the seemingly endless shooting wars in the Middle East along with the declaration of money as speech and corporations as people, and with bank for-closings and banking shenanigans and “too big to fail” and the stock market rising and failing like a roller coaster every few years…and on and on and on…
Have we Americans run out of ideas? Is our quality waning? Are we just too tired to keep on keeping on and suddenly willing to say, “Ah what the heck. Let’s do it. Let’s give ‘the Donald’ a try and see what he can do?!”
And why not? We do love entertainment. We are the TV generation or all descendants thereof. We do love a good show… and this is sure shaping up to be one hell of a reality show…and what better host than Donald Trump himself?
It’s almost too good to pass up isn’t it? 4 years of…the greatest country in the world putting on the greatest show on earth? I don’t know if we Americans can pass up such an opportunity to entertain, astound and scare the crap out of the world…or will cooler and more intelligent minds prevail?
What do you think? In any event, I’m pretty sure we’re all going to at least stay tuned…
I don’t think there’s a snowball’s chance in hell that Trump will be elected in 2016, but given the effect global warming is having on ol’ mother earth …
There are options, more refreshing and definitely more sane than giving over to the idea that entertainment will do, instead of leadership. Vote for Bernie.
It is almost a circus and a sorry situation. When American politics degenerates to mere sensationalism and entertainment it makes one shudder. When a ginormous 1st World Nation such as this is gripped in such hilarious political opera where its an all comers club, there is fire on the mountain.
I hate reality shows because, ..well, ..err, ..they’re not real. The greatest show on earth? That title rightly belongs to Ringling Bros., Barnum and Bailey, a true 3 ring Circus (not 2, like Washington). The election, like every election everywhere, is mere Puppet Theater, a popularity contest based on unoriginal ideas, a formality that brings no change but re-enforces the Status Quo. May as well “Hollywood” it up a bit, “Pimp my Election” on MTV, or “White-house Wars” on Discovery Channel come to mind as potential formats.
Love your posts, keep ’em coming! Greetings.
He says out loud what many people are thinking, so many may secretly votes for him. But, as Barry Goldwater spoke his mind about Vietnam (win it or get out) – people are afraid to have a hot head in office. So they settle for the sneaky politician who who makes their own rules, like we have now.
Wonderful is all I can type, because nothing else comes to mind. 🙂
This election cycle already “jumped the shark” when Trump opened his mouth to say he was running.
The 2016 Presidential race makes me want to drink, scream and bury my head in the sand.
I’m getting the feeling from talking to my neighbors that people are really serious about giving Trump the vote. I think it’s scary, but the public is desperate, and that’s never good.
