Here is something very interesting to consider for the new year.
The Program on International Policy Attitudes (PIPA for short) managed at the University of Maryland found in a survey of American voters that Fox News viewers are significantly more misinformed than those who get their news from other sources.
Simply put, the more one watches Fox News as their primary source for information about what’s going on in the world…
THE LESS ONE WILL KNOW ABOUT WHAT”S GOING ON IN THE WORLD!
I live in New Jersey where a Farliegh Dickinson University Public Mind Poll examined New Jerseyans and how their television news watching affected their overall knowledge of what’s going on in the world. What they found was that those who watched Fox News as their primary news source were less informed about the world than those who…
didn’t watch any news at all!
Holy crap!
And these are not the only public surveys or studies to reach this conclusion. Several others have found that the more you watch FOX the less you will know. And don’t take my word for it. Please look it up, Google it, or check it out for yourself. Which is my entire point. Don’t just believe everything you see and hear on TV, especially if you love to watch Fox News.
Check your sources. Use multiple sources. See what others are saying. Engage in a true dialogue with friends and relatives. READ! Ask questions and expand your information base. Stop watching TV if you have to… but please, please, please make it a New Year’s Resolution for 2014 to start really thinking about…
what you think about…
And what you think you know.
Oh – Thank you so very much for backing up my position of not watching the news – immediately shared this link with those in my circle who despair of me ignoring the TV news casts —
But I do have to wonder, do you think this is a quiet smear campaign funded by CNN who would be horrified if a study were done to find out that anyone that watches any advertising funded newscast was just as misinformed?
I will say, I’ve been recently introduced to the HBO series, “The Newsroom” and loved the first season (which I now own on DVD) If you haven’t seen it, you may enjoy it.
🙂
I have seen the series and I enjoyed it too. Looking forward to its return. Unfortunately the news has gone out of the news. There is no hubris nor impartiality and honesty and truth and facts are not necessarily of any concern. It’s all schtick and ideology. We can thank deregulation and once again president Reagan, Dick Cheney et al. for getting the ball rolling towards where we are today.
Reblogged this on A late Blooming Artist's Blog.
This is interesting, one would rather watch no news at all than watch Faux News! They must be doing badly
I don’t watch television. However, I once had a friend who gave VERY BAD advice. I finally resolved to use her advice–in opposite. I called it the Josephine 180 degrees rule. Perhaps folks could do the same with Fox–that is, use it as a barometer of what not to believe.
Ha! Just another example of the liberal media that would have us believe the world is round if we didn’t know better!
I have posted comments on FaceBook that are almost identical to “And don’t take my word for it. Please look it up, Google it, or check it out for yourself. Which is my entire point. Don’t just believe everything you see and hear on TV, especially if you love to watch Fox News.” I don’t understand how people can just believe anything they read or hear. If you want the truth you need to find it out for yourself from reliable sources.
I’d rather watch no news at all than watch only Fox. Now, I know that’s a good decision. Thank you for reinforcing my thoughts. I had to share this.
You’re not alone in the US with the Murdoch media empire. In Australia, Murdoch owns 80% of the newspaper outlets and conducted an outrageous, venal, lying smear campaign against the then Federal Labor government (which wasn’t any great shakes, by any means) to really fund the election of the current bunch of complete idiots in the LIberal-National Party coalition. This was to look after the interests of the big, billionaire mining corporations, with currently a swathe being cut in funding to overseas aid, education, health, the environment, and so on and so forth. I shake my head in disbelief that people believed the rubbish dished up by the Murdoch rags.
