Die Christmas Die?

7 Dec

I went shopping today and upon checkout the sales person said “Have a Happy Holiday!”

And you know what? I immediately knew exactly what holiday she was talking about. She was talking about my holiday…the one I celebrate. Of course she was. What other holiday could she have been wishing for me to have a happy one of, if not mine?

Did she have to say Merry Christmas? Really? Was she attempting to kill Christmas and the baby Jesus by using the word holiday? Was she and the store she worked in on a crusade to destroy, heaven, God, Christianity and the U.S.A?

We were just perfect strangers after all. How was she or anyone else in that store supposed to know what I or anyone else did or did not believe in, worship or celebrate… and besides it tis the season of holidays is it not? These days there are quite a few holidays, parties and celebrations packed into the weeks between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day.

“Happy Holidays” to me says just that!

Eat, drink and be merry!

Enjoy, celebrate, spread joy!

Peace on Earth good will to all!

And most importantly of all, Judge not and enjoy everyone’s holiday as you would have them enjoy yours.

When meeting strangers there is nothing wrong with extending a little politeness (every Christian should know that)

Making a living out of being divisive is what Sarah Palin and Fox and Friends are for.

So may your god rest ye merry! And Happy Holidays to all!

This is great, but I would love it if you would re-post/re-blog that piece you did last year about the war on Christmas. That was one of the funniest things I have ever read in my life! I think you should post it every “holiday” season!

    die xmas, die
    rather refined
    and assuredly
    politically correct.

May I steal this – with proper attribution, of course? I’ve been trying to write a response to friend who’s sure our society is crumbling because we’re “not allowed” to say Merry Christmas any more.

Any greeting bestowed with a smile works just fine for me. I accept it for the kindness it is and nothing more. That’s enough.

    Happy Holidays to you too!

It is unconstitutional to impose our religion on others.

And would you want for those who celebrate non-christian holidays to impose them on you?

Enjoyed the social commentary! I agree! You made me realize… Thank God Charlie Brown’s “THE MEANING OF CHRISTMAS” has not been deemed “politically incorrect”…yet, by the NSA, and can still be seen and heard on You Tube. Here’s the link, if anyone cares to see this short Christmas animation:

… if one is willing to risk invasion of their privacy by the NSA, because they watched it. Seriously, very seriously, God Bless Everyone! I hope everyone has a BLESSED CHRISTMAS!

The political correctness in the US has gone to extremes.
In India, where Christians are a minority (2.5% of the population), 25th Dec. is a national holiday and everything is closed (In fact, even Good Friday is a holiday there). People don’t wish Happy Holidays there as that would confuse the Hindus and Muslims for whom their major festivals are Diwali and Ramadhan which are already over by the time Christmas rolls in. So, even non-christians join in the Christmas spirit and celebrate ‘Merry X-Mas’ by enjoying cake and ale (thanks to the colonial legacy).

And why is the tree at Rockefeller center and at the White House called the ‘Holiday Tree’? That does not even make sense. By trying to please everyone, we end up pleasing none.

I have searched and searched on the internet and nowhere do I find the Christmas trees at the White House or Rockefeller Center referred to as anything but Christmas trees! There are references made to the holiday decorations at the White House and the fact that the Rockefeller tree stays up throughout the holidays because Christmas is only one day and many of the decorations are not directly related to age old Christmas or Christian traditions but have simply become symbols of the season that we all accept as signs of Christmas. In any event what Fox News does is they send someone to these venues and they have them call it the “Holiday Tree” and then they proceed to talk about the “horrible scandal of political correctness” that is destroying Christmas as if they didn’t just make it up themselves. Watch the movie “Network” and you will learn all about what the “news” has become today.

@gpicone – Thank you, yes I was wrong. They are in fact referred to as Christmas trees. I let my ‘Fox News’ influence color my thoughts. Their ‘War on Christmas’ news segment is jarring and beyond annoying. I haven’t seen ‘Network’ but will do so soon.

I see nothing wrong in wishing ‘Merry Christmas’ to non-christians or even atheists, as, to me, it implies sharing in a festival and does not convey or suggest conversion. Happy Holidays is confusing as there is just one-day holiday (25 Dec) between Thanksgiving and New Year for many of us.
